During the rolling process, the rollers are moved towards each other vertically. Consequently, the gap between the rollers becomes smaller, and the plate running between the rollers becomes thinner. In order to achieve this, the drive shafts of the roller drives must be equipped with joints similarly to cardan shafts. Thus, the drive shafts are enabled to follow the vertical movement of the rollers.
