During the rolling process, the rolls are moved towards each other vertically. Consequently, the gap between the rolls becomes smaller, and the plate running between the rollers becomes thinner. In order to achieve this, the drive shafts of the rolls drives must be equipped with joints similarly to cardan shafts. Thus, the drive shafts are enabled to follow the vertical movement of the rollers.

Sliding pads

So-called sliding pads are used in the joints.
